Frequently Asked Questions About Roofing and Restoration

How do I know if I need a roof repair or a full replacement?
Age and how widespread the damage is. If the roof is relatively young and the problem is one valley, flashing detail or a small area, repair it. If shingles are shedding granules across every slope, or you are fixing a different leak each year, you are usually spending money on a roof that is finished.
An architectural asphalt shingle roof installed properly with adequate ventilation should give you somewhere in the twenty to thirty year range. Standing seam metal lasts considerably longer. Poor ventilation is the most common reason a roof falls well short of its rated life.
Granules collecting in the gutters, curling or cracked shingles, damp patches or staining on ceilings, daylight visible in the attic, and dented or damaged vents and flashing. Several of these are not visible from the ground.
We do not recommend it. Layering hides deck damage, adds weight to the structure, shortens the life of the new shingles and can void the manufacturer warranty. We strip back to the deck so we can see and fix what is underneath.
We strip the old roof to the deck, repair or replace any damaged decking, then rebuild the system: ice and water shield in the valleys and at the eaves, synthetic underlayment across the field, new flashing at every penetration, correct ridge and soffit ventilation, then the shingles or metal panels.
Because a roof that cannot breathe cooks itself from underneath. Inadequate attic ventilation can take years off an installation that is perfect in every other respect, and in winter it is a direct cause of ice damming at the eaves.
That is algae, and it is common in humid areas. It appears first on north-facing slopes that stay shaded and damp. It is largely cosmetic early on, but it indicates a slope that is not drying properly. Algae-resistant shingle lines are worth considering at replacement.

GROUP 2 — Storm Damage and Insurance

How do I know if my roof has hail damage?
Usually you cannot tell from the ground, which is exactly why hail damage goes unnoticed for so long. The signs are granules building up in gutters and downspouts, bruised or soft spots on the shingles, and dented vents, flashing or gutters. Damage often does not leak until months later.
If the damage was caused by a covered event such as hail or wind, often yes. Age-related wear is not covered. What usually decides the outcome is the quality of the documentation supporting the claim.
Almost always because the initial inspection was too thin to prove what happened. Hail damage on an asphalt roof needs to be documented slope by slope and photographed properly. A one-page report gives the insurer every reason to pay less.
Yes. We document the damage to the standard the insurer requires and handle the adjuster conversation ourselves. You should not have to argue about shingle bruising over the phone.
Be careful. Every significant storm brings crews in from out of the area. Ask who is actually holding the warranty and whether they will still be reachable in three years. We are happy to give you a free second opinion either way.

Call us. We are available 24/7 and can get out to secure the roof and stop water reaching the structure. Take photographs of any interior damage before you clean up, and do not agree to anything with your insurer until the roof has been properly inspected.

GROUP 3 — Cost, Financing and Warranties

How much does a new roof cost?
It depends on size, pitch, complexity and material, which is why we do not quote blind. We measure the roof properly and give you a written price with the scope spelled out, so you know exactly what you are paying for and the number does not move.
Yes. Financing starts from $99 a month, with 0% APR options, up to 12 months same-as-cash, terms up to 10 years and $0 down. There are options available for imperfect credit.
Yes. Veterans, active military, police, firefighters and EMT or paramedic personnel receive 10% off all roofing and restoration services.
You get the manufacturer warranty on the materials plus our workmanship warranty on the installation. As a GAF Certified Residential Roofing Contractor and CertainTeed ShingleMaster we can offer enhanced manufacturer coverage that standard contractors cannot.
Yes, at no cost and no obligation. You get a written assessment at the end. If your roof does not need work, we will tell you that.
Architectural asphalt shingles suit most homes and offer the best balance of cost and performance. Standing seam metal costs more initially, lasts significantly longer and handles high wind better. We will give you the honest trade-off for your specific roof rather than steering you toward whichever suits us.

GROUP 4 — Working With Us

How long does a roof replacement take?
Most residential replacements are a one to two day job. Larger or more complex rooflines run longer. We give you a realistic timeframe in the written quote rather than an optimistic one.
Yes, fully licensed and insured across Indiana, Tennessee and Kentucky.
Southern Indiana, the Indianapolis area, Middle Tennessee and western and southern Kentucky. Every town is listed on our service areas page.
Yes, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Yes. We manage debris throughout the job rather than only at the end, run a magnet over the grounds for nails, and finish with a walkthrough before we consider the job complete.
Yes. We handle commercial and multi-unit roofing alongside our residential work.
It should not, and with us it does not. You get a written scope before anything starts and we work to it. The most common contractor complaint is the price that moves once work has begun, and it is avoidable if the roof was assessed properly to begin with.
Call us or send an enquiry through the site. We will book a time that suits you, carry out the free inspection and give you a written quote with no pressure attached.
