The Material

Why Architectural Shingles Suit Most Homes

Asphalt shingle is the most widely installed roofing material in the country for good reason. It handles the climate across all three states we work in, it suits almost every roof shape, it is repairable rather than all-or-nothing, and the cost-to-lifespan balance is hard to beat.

We install architectural shingles rather than the older three-tab style. Architectural shingles are heavier, built in layers rather than a single flat sheet, and carry considerably better wind ratings. They also look substantially better, with a dimensional shadow line that flat three-tab cannot produce. The price difference is smaller than most homeowners expect and the performance difference is not.

Shingle lines vary in impact resistance, wind rating and algae resistance. In humid areas an algae-resistant line is worth the small premium, because dark streaking on north-facing slopes is a sign of a slope that is not drying properly. We will walk you through which line makes sense for your roof and your area rather than defaulting to whatever we have on the truck.

As a GAF Certified Residential Roofing Contractor and a CertainTeed ShingleMaster, we install to verified manufacturer standards and can offer enhanced warranty coverage as a result.

The Installation

The Shingle Is Only Part of the Job

A shingle roof fails at the details long before the shingles themselves wear out. Flashing that was reused instead of replaced, valleys without proper underlayment, penetrations sealed with caulk instead of flashed correctly, and inadequate ventilation are the four things that end shingle roofs early.

We strip back to the deck, repair what is underneath, and rebuild the system properly: ice and water shield at valleys and eaves, synthetic underlayment across the field, new flashing throughout, and ridge and soffit ventilation that actually moves air.

That is also what makes the manufacturer warranty worth something. Enhanced warranty coverage depends on the system being installed to specification, which is exactly what certification requires and what a cheap installation skips.

five Reasons Homeowners Deal Us In

Winning Hand Roofing & Restoration About Image2
Built on Repeat Customers

Most of our work comes from people who have used us before or were sent by someone who did. That only happens if you do the job right the first time.

When a storm hits, we don’t wait for business hours. Call any time, day or night, and we’ll get someone out to tarp, assess, and stop further damage before it gets worse.
We work directly with your adjuster and document everything with photos and a detailed report. Most homeowners never have to chase down paperwork or fight for what they’re owed.
We carry full licensing and insurance everywhere we work, and our crews are certified to install the systems we recommend. That means proper installation and warranties that actually hold up.

Every roof we install is backed by a workmanship warranty from us and a manufacturer warranty on materials. If something goes wrong that shouldn’t, we come back and make it right.

Common Questions About Asphalt Shingle Roofing

How long do asphalt shingles last?
An architectural shingle roof installed properly with adequate ventilation should give you somewhere in the twenty to thirty year range. Poor ventilation is the most common reason a shingle roof falls well short of that.
Architectural shingles are layered rather than flat, heavier, carry better wind ratings and give a dimensional appearance. Three-tab is the older, cheaper, flat style. We install architectural because the cost difference is small and the performance difference is not.
Size, pitch, complexity and the shingle line all affect it. We measure the roof and give you a written price against a defined scope rather than a rate per square quoted from the street.
In hail-prone areas they can be, and some insurers offer a premium reduction for them. We will tell you honestly whether the upgrade makes sense for your roof and your area.
Shingles manufactured with granules that inhibit the algae growth causing dark streaking. Worth considering in humid areas, particularly if your roof has north-facing slopes that stay shaded.
Sometimes. Colour lines change over the years and older roofs fade, so an exact match is not always possible. We will tell you up front rather than after the work is done.
Manufacturer warranty on the materials plus our workmanship warranty. Our GAF and CertainTeed certifications allow enhanced manufacturer coverage.
Shingles suit most homes and cost less up front. Metal lasts considerably longer and handles high wind better. We will give you the honest comparison for your specific roof.
